Andhrapradesh: Janata Curfew draws massive response in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: The Janata Curfew call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received good response from across Srikakulam district and all people voluntarily extended their cooperation and support to the government by confining to their homes.

The curfew is aimed to prevent spread of coronavirus through social distancing.

Since morning all types of transport vehicles including four-wheelers and bikes kept off the roads except movement of some officials' vehicles. All shops, commercial establishments, malls and hotels remained closed since morning.

AP State Public Transport Department (APSPTD) also did not operate its services since morning. People are confined to their homes and spent all day with their family members.

The Central government declared Janata Curfew following advisory given by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to prevent spread of deadly corona pandemic and with an aim to educate public on social distancing, individual healthcare and self-isolation to prevent coronavirus scare.

Government appealed to people to follow curfew on their own and people also understood the seriousness of the corona.

In Srikakulam city, all important roads and junctions wore a deserted look following closure of Main Market and Rythu Bazaar. In other urban and semi-urban areas in Amudalavalasa, Narasannapeta, Palasa, Rajam, Palakonda, Tekkali, Sompeta and Itchapuram, people are confined to their houses all along the day.

Priests conducted Maha Soura Yagam and Aruna Homam at Sun God temple in Arasavalli on Sunday. They prayed Sun God to prevent spread of coronavirus as it is taking lives of thousands of people across the world.

Devotees and even journalists are also not allowed for these two religious events to avoid mass gathering at the temple premises.

People have expressed their gratitude and conveyed thanks to the medical experts and related staff who are working in prevention of corona by way of clapping at their residential areas in Srikakulam city.
