Andhrapradesh: Lockdown continues in Eluru
Eluru: Lockdown continued on the second day on Tuesday in Eluru and other parts of the West Godavari district . People stayed at their homes in response to the lock down till March 31. Both State and Central governments announced lockdown of trading activity, public transportation, Railways till March 31.
West Godavari Collector R Mutyala Raju visited various parts of the city on Tuesday and inspected the lockdown announced by the state and central governments due to the coronavirus threat posed in the country. The District Collector visited RR Peta, Karrala Vantena, Fateh Badh, Fire station and other areas.
He spoke to the medical shop owners and enquired about the availability of sanitizers and masks. He suggested to the traders to maintain sufficient stocks for the convenience of the people. On the other hand, the district police maintained strict vigil on the main roads and erected barricades preventing people from loitering on the roads. District Superintendent of Police Navadeep Singh Grewal personally supervised the arrangements for the lock down and instructed the police to be on high alert and prevent people from loitering on the roads.
Hundreds of police were deployed in Eluru and other parts of the district to ensure that people stay at their homes respectively and avoid roaming on the roads. Compared to yesterday, the movement of public on the roads drastically declined in Eluru on Tuesday. Police have warned that cases would be booked for violation of prohibition orders.
Except medical shops, all other shops, hotels, cinema halls, commercial establishments remained closed. The RTC cancelled the services and autos were banned from plying on the roads. Petty traders have lost their livelihood.
