Anganwadi workers stage dharna in Kakinada
Kakinada: Anganwadi workers staged a dharna in front of Urban Mandal Tahsildar's office here on Friday, demanding abolition of `Booth Level Officer' duties as they were not able to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.
Leading the agitation, AP Angawadi Workers and Helpers Association (Kakinada Branch) president Ramanamma and secretary Krishna Kumari said that their responsibility was mainly watching the children by giving them nutritious food and other items. Due to the additional burden of the BLO duties, they were not able to attend to their family responsibilities and they were neglecting their children.
They said that the Anganwadi workers attended duties during the time of elections. But, they were not paid Rs 4,000 remuneration as promised. Now, the state government was not releasing salaries for the past four months and also did not pay rent to Anganwadi centers for the past eight months. They submitted a memorandum to the Urban Tahsildar Tagore.
