Anil Kumar Yadav hints at terminating Penna Barrage contract

Nellore: Minister for Water Resources P Anil Kumar Yadav on Saturday said that the State government may cancel the contract for constructing the Penna barrage. A decision in this regard would be taken after holding discussions with the officials. The contract agency, he said, had failed to complete the works on schedule though the project was launched way back in 2006.

The Minister visited the city and inspected the sanitation conditions and reviewed it with the officials. Tenders would be invited shortly for construction of flyover at Muthukur junction on the mini bypass road to ease traffic congestions in the city.

Anil Kumar said the TDP government had not evinced interest in finding a solution to the traffic issues in the city. The State government has sanctioned Rs 30 crore for construction of the flyover between GPR Kalyana Mandapam and Joyalukkas showroom on the mini bypass.

The government had taken up development works worth Rs 200 crore in the Municipal Corporation limits and measures would be taken to construct a retaining wall in the city as part of beautification, he said.

The Minister said the CCTV cameras would be installed at all streets in the Corporation limits to curb crimes.

The officials were aked to prepare a Detailed Project Report for installing high-resolution CCTV cameras in the city.

He released a poster of Talpagiri Ranganathaswamy Brahmotsavams, slated to be held from March 4 to 14. He directed the officials to take measures for the smooth conduct of Radhotsavam which will be held on March 11. He instructed the civic officials to maintain sanitation during the Brahmotsavams.

He also directed officials of Transco to provide uninterrupted power supply. Municipal Commissioner P V V S Murthy and others were present.
