AP Chief Secretary Adityanath Das meets SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh to discuss ove local body elections
The Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Adityanath Das met State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh on Friday in the wake of the High Court orders. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary team will reportedly explain the government's stance on local body elections to the state election commissioner. The chief secretary was accompanied by Panchayati Raj Chief Secretary Gopalakrishna Dwivedi and Health Chief Secretary Anil Kumar Singhal.
It is knew that Chief Secretary Adityanath Das has met the SEC on behalf of government on the orders of the High Court recently as the issue of local body elections has been standstill due to differences between the government and SEC in the past. It remains to be seen whether the controversy would end with the latest meeting.
There has been controversy over the conduction of local body elections in Andhra Pradesh ever since the state election commissioner has postponed the elections in the last March. The SEC is contemplating to conduct the elections in coming February but the government is opposing the move by citing the coronavirus second wave and the distribution of coronavirus vaccine.
