According to the 2011 census, the wards of the 64 municipalities have already been restructured, and voters' lists are being prepared by counting the population of SC, ST, BC and others. Another 21 municipalities have received fresh orders for re-division of wards.
Earlier, with the High Court's verdict on the Local Body elections, last months has made the govt to take steps to hold the elections. A couple of petitions filed in the court came for the hearing last month.
The term of the local bodies was ended in August last year. However, the previous govt didn't hold the elections citing the reorganization of the reservations in the municipality and panchayat elections; hence the elections are delayed.
However, with the petition on not holding the elections for a long time has head and the HC have the verdict. Government takin all measures to hold the polls once the wards and reservations are finalised, which will be done in two phases.
