AP government schools must attract students: Jagan to officials

Amaravati: With a vision to attract every student to government schools, new Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy asked concerned officials to bring about revolutionary changes in the education system itself.

In the first review meeting with the School Education department officials on Friday at the CM's camp Office at Tadepalli, Jagan directed them to provide all the necessary amenities and infrastructure in the schools on priority basis.

He asked them to provide quality food and water to the students in the schools. He observed that there should not be any compromise on providing quality food, during a discussion on Midday Meal with the School Education and other concerned department officials along with Akshaya Patra Foundation authorities.

The Chief Minister said that the required buildings for cooking Midday meal must be constructed as early as possible across the State at all the schools.

Jagan said that this was just a preliminary meeting and asked the authorities to come up with detailed reports on all the issues related to the department, for the next meeting.

Jagan also increased the honorarium from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000, which is being provided to the agencies supplying midday meal.

The Chief Minister also suggested to the officials to utilise the services of Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide midday meal to the students in the schools. They are already engaged in supplying food for the Anna Canteens.

There are about 30 lakh students studying in around 44,000 government schools in the State.
