AP Govt revises power tariff, here are the new rates
The YSRCP government headed by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has given a rude shock to the people of Andhra Pradesh by raising the electricity charges in the state. In the latest hikes, the officials have decided to increase the rate by 90 paise per unit for those consuming the power above 500 units while the Tariffs charges for them is stipulated between Rs 9.05 and Rs 9.75. The government agreed to waive off the Rs 8.353 crores as subsidy for the farmers (Non-Income-paying Farmers, Jaggery Farmers and Rural Nurseries).
The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Electricity Supply Company and the Southern Region Electricity Distribution Companies have estimated revenue of Rs 14,349.07 crore for the consumption of power for the financial year 2020-21. However, the two distributors have reduced the net deficit to Rs 10,060.63 crore by reducing the burden on consumers and the state government by Rs 2,893.48 crore.
On the other hand, charges will be imposed on government and corporate entities in particular. Increased electricity charges would reportedly carry a burden of Rs 1300 crore on people. The government has assured to provide low-cost power supply to households within 500 units and agreed to pay Rs 1707.07 crore in the subsidized form to the electricity companies.
Non-profit organizations, government agencies and government educational institutions in the LT category and Dhobi Ghats in the HT category are said to be supplied power for free of charge. While for public purposes, the Railway Tariff Unit has been reduced to Rs 5.50 from Rs 6.50. The unit has been reduced from Rs 12.20 to Rs 6.70 to promote electric vehicles. The government decided to continue the Load Factor Incentives for HT industries in the coming year as well.
