The Andhra Pradesh government has moved Supreme Court over the High Court's order on revoking the suspension of senior IPS officer and former Intelligence chief AB Venkateswara Rao. The government has filed a petition to issue the stay on the ruling of the Andhra High Court. The High Court lifted the suspension on AB Venkateswara Rao in May considering the writ petition of Venkateswara Rao. The court has also ordered to pay the pending salaries of suspension period to the former intelligence chief. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on this.

The AP government issued an order on February 8 this year suspending Venkateswara Rao citing irregularities in the conduct of the responsibilities. Venkateswara Rao has moved to the CAT, challenging the decision of the AP government. He said his suspension was illegal and there were no allegations in his 30 years of service. But CAT also upheld the AP government's suspension and hence Venkateswara Rao moved High Court, which given it verdict in favor of the latter.

AB Venkateshwara Rao is a 1989 IPS officer of AP cadre who served as the intelligence chief during the tenure of Chandrababu. The Election Commission has transferred him from the post of Intelligence Chief before the last general election, according to a complaint filed during the 2019 election.
