The YSRCP government headed by chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, which on Monday passed a unanimous resolution to abolish the state's legislative council has sent the resolution to the Central Cabinet Secretary, Law Department and the Central Election Commission.

After the debate in the Union Cabinet meeting, the council repeal bill will be moved in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and later with the president's consent, the resolution of council abolition will come into effect.

The move comes after the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) sent two bills related to the decentralization of Andhra Pradesh's capital to a select committee. The YSRCP, irked with the constant opposition in the council, decided to dissolve it.
