The Andhra Pradesh High Court, which reserved the verdict on the petition seeking CBI inquiry of murder of YS Vivekananda Reddy has disclosed the verdict directing the state government to handed over the YS Viveka's murder case to CBI. The court expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation into the case, which has been a year since the murder. "We have surrendered to the CBI as time is of critical importance in the investigation of the case," high court commented.

YS Vivekananda Reddy was brutally murdered on March 15 before the 2019 elections. A tense battle broke out between the TDP and YSRCP. YS Jagan, the then leader of the opposition, demanded the CBI inquiry while the TDP government set up the SIT. However, the accused is not yet caught hold. After the swearing-in as chief minister, CM Jagan Reddy constituted a new SIT.

Viveka's wife Sowbhagyamma, daughter Sunita and TDP MLC Btech Ravi, former minister Adinarayana Reddy have approached the High Court to hand over the Viveka murder case to the CBI. Jagan also withdrew a previous petition to hand over the case to the CBI. Arguing over the petition, the government has said that SIT is investigating the case and there is no need to hand it over to the CBI. After hearing the arguments, the court decided to hand over the case to the CBI.
