AP High Court lifts suspension on former Intelligence chief AB Venkateswara Rao

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has lifted the suspension of IPS officer and former Intelligence chief AB Venkateswara Rao and ordered the government to take him into duties. It also ordered the government to pay him salaries for the period of suspension. The High Court has also set aside the directions given by the CAT is related to AB Venkateswara Rao's suspension.

In February this year, the government issued an order suspending AB Venkateswara Rao citing misappropriation of funds in purchasing the police department equipment. AB Venkateswara Rao is an IPS officer of 1996 cadre of AP. He served as the Intelligence Chief during Chandrababu Naidu's regime.

However, the DGP submitted a report to the government alleging irregularities in the purchase of surveillance equipment from Israel while serving as Additional DGP of the state The AP government has taken disciplinary action against AB Venkateswara Rao to this extent.

Earlier, the Union Home Ministry ordered Jagan's government to file a comprehensive charge sheet to centre over the damage that the state's treasury had been affected in the name of modernizing the police department. The state government said that it is investigating the corruption of AB Venkateswara Rao with the ACB DG. However, the Union Home Minister has asked to submit the report to the centre.
