AP High Court suspends govt. memo over Swaroopanandendra Saraswati's birthday celebrations
The controversy over the birthday celebrations of Visakha Sharda Peetadipati Swaroopanandendra Saraswati has taken another turn. The PIL was filed in the High Court challenging the Revenue Department's order to send temple rites and gifts from 23 temples across the state on Swami's birthday on the 18th of this month. The High Court has heard the petition today in which the Sharada Petadiapti's lawyer said that they were withdrawing the letter written by them. A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the High Court challenging a memo issued by the government to 23 temples to ensure that Swaroopanandendra Saraswati's birthday celebrations in Visakhapatnam are held in a grand manner with priests and officials offerings to him adhere to temple-level etiquette.
The petitioners demanded the cancellation of memo issued by the state Endowments additional commissioner K Rama Chandra Mohan which is in contrast to guidelines hence the trial court suspended the memo.
