AP Local Body Elections row: Yanamala Ramakrishnudu urges governor to intervene
Leader of the opposition in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and former minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu urged the governor not to ignore the developments in the state and to intervene immediately. He said that the Election Commission has the power to conduct elections under Article 243A, 243K (1). He clarified that it was up to the governor to see to it that the required employees were allocated for the panchayat elections. Article 243K (3) of the Constitution explains the same.
Yanamala said it was unprecedented in the history of the country for ministers to comment that the situation in the state was not appropriate to conduct the elections. He said it will invite to invoke Article 356. He opined that it is nowhere seen in the country where employees demanding the elections be deferred. He questioned whether there were any objections to the management of liquor queues.
He said that attacks on the opposition, atrocities on people from all walks of life, and eventually the destruction of temples were inappropriate. CM Jagan is obstructing the conduction of the election after noticing the dissatisfaction among the people. Yanamala alleged that Jagan and co do not have the courage to face the local elections.
