AP Municipal Elections 2021: Huge turnout in Krishna district
Vijayawada: Krishna district registered 75.90 per cent polling in the elections held in the municipalities of Nuzvid and Pedana and Nagara Panchayats of Vuyyur, Nandigama and Tiruvuru. Nuzvid registered 71.63 percent voting and Pedana 80.55 per cent. Vuyuru Nagara Panchayat recorded 79.49 percent, Nandigama 74.39 percent and Tiruvuru 75.70 percent. Of the total 1,52,732 votes in five Municipalities and Nagara Panchayats, 115925 votes were polled by 5 pm. The polling process began slowly in two towns and picked up between 9 and 11 am. In Nuzvid town, the polling started at 9 am and 28.96 per cent registered by 11 am and risen to 50.14 percent by 1 pm. By 3 pm, the polling percentage shot up to 61.80 per cent.
The elections were held for 30 municipal divisions in Nuzvid. Two candidates were elected unopposed in Nuzvid municipality.
Joint Collector L Siva Sankar along with the Nuzvid Sub-Collector Pratishta Mangain inspected the polling stations in Nuzvid town. He visited the 14 and 17 municipal wards in the town and inspected the polling process.
Earlier, he instructed the polling staff to ensure peaceful polling in the town.
He said all steps were taken to prevent any untoward incident in the town during the polling. Several hundred police personnel were drafted for the polling duty and to ensure smooth conduct of polls.
In Pedana, polling started slowly in 18 wards of Pedana Municipality and by 3 pm, 69.28 percent polling recorded in the town. Barring stray incidents, the polling was total and peaceful in two towns on Wednesday.
Voters enthusiastically participated in the polling and exercised their franchise. Krishna district Superintendent of Police M Ravindranath Babu visited some areas in Pedana and inspected the bandobust. He instructed the police to be on high alert and prevent any untoward incident during the process of polling.
