AP Municipal Elections: Voting begins for 12 corporations and 71 municipalities

Andhra Pradesh Municipal elections have begun on Wednesday with voters reached the polling stations at seven in the morning, which will continue till 5 pm. There are a total of 12 corporations and 75 municipalities while Guntur district's Macharla, Piduguralla, Chittoor district,s Punganur, Kadapa district's Pulivendula municipalities were unanimous. Elections will be held for the remaining 71 municipalities. Of 671 divisions in 12 corporations, 89 divisions were unanimous and polling will be held for the remaining 582 divisions. 78,71,272 people will exercise their right to vote across the state.

Coronavirus rules are being enforced at polling stations. The police have made arrangements for reinforcements in troubled areas. Election materials have already been delivered to all polling stations. More than half of the municipal corporations, municipalities and city panchayats have set up heavy police reserves as they are in troubled areas. Police identified 2,320 highly problematic and 2,468 problematic polling stations. Special provision has been made in the respective areas and arrangements have been made to conduct the elections peacefully.

The High Court has also given the green signal for elections in the Eluru Corporation in the troubled West Godavari district. However, the results were ordered to stop. The High Court also said that polling should be held in Chilakaluripet municipality of Guntur district and the results should not be announced. Excluding these two positions, the results of 11 corporations and 70 municipalities will be released on the 14th of this month.
