Tirupati: Octopus, a counter terrorist operations wing in AP police, has grabbed the attention of youngsters and students at the ongoing State-level Police Duty Meet 2020 'IGNITE' in Tirupati.

Octopus commando unit has displayed its eye catching equipment and defence tools in the police duty meet.

Ultramodern equipment with the latest technology of Octopus has created enthusiasm among the youth and students who have been visiting the IGNITE for the last three days.

AP Police Department as part of its duty meet, set up a special stall of Octopus Commando unit displaying a wide variety of weapons and latest equipment which it has procured for counter terrorist operations.

Main highlight of the octopus stall is Rs 1 crore worth Nano Helicopter camera which would work in night vision, bad weather conditions and even in storms. It is grabbing the attention of all the visitors in the State Police Duty Meet. This was procured from Norway by the State police.

Octopus Commando Unit head Narasimha Rao said, "Nano Helicopter will detect the terrorist activities from a long distance and plan the attack."

He added that the nano drone can fly non-stop for more than 30 minutes in the air under even adverse weather conditions and can watch the movement of terrorists and take high quality pictures and photos from a distance.

Another attraction of the Octopus stall is unmanned bomb disposal robots. They have been manufactured in Canada. AP Police purchased these robots from that country for the removal of bombs, IEDs and other latest explosives which are dangerous and a threat to society. Narasimha Rao said that at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, they had purchased the latest small robot which resembles a Hitachi model with artificial hand and wheels.

"We can remove the bombs easily by using this robot during the counter terrorist operations without any casualties being reported. This robot moves by chain wheels at any surface like mud, hard soil and other difficult terrains," he added.

Rao further pointed out that such sophisticated and latest equipment was available with AP Police Octopus unit only and no other State police departments procured such an equipment.

Students are seen waiting in large numbers at the stall to get to know about the automatic sophisticated weapons like AK 47, sniper shot guns, other German and Austria made guns which are being handled by the commandos for counter terrorist attacks. More than 1.5 km range shotguns were with the octopus unit.

Snipers (sharp shooters in commando unit) have explained about the functioning of the guns and their range to the students.
