Kadapa: The district-level farmers' convention, headed by AP Rythu Sangam, on Saturday demanded the central government to implement recommendations of Swaminathan and Jayathi Ghosh in the interest of the farming community to get proper Minimum Support Price (MSP) of their produce. In the meeting held here, they also decided to build strong agitation in protest against the failure of the government in providing MSP to the farmers in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking the occasion, professor Venugopal has said that implementation of the World Bank reforms by the Centre would lead farming sector to face challenges. Ultimately, it would result in more farmer suicides, as they fail to repay the borrowings got from the banks. While questioning the credibility of BJP-led NDA government confining its assurances related to implementing recommendations of Swaminathan and Jayathi Ghosh only during electioneering, he said that this is the time for all farmers' associations to join together into a single platform. Otherwise, the future of farming sector would be in danger.

Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangam state vice president B Narayana said that the role of middle men in purchasing paddy is making farmers not able to secure MSP, as they are selling their produce at cheaper prices.  AP Rythu Sangam district secretary B Dastagiri Reddy, leaders A Obulesu, A Eswaraiah, and others were present on the occasion.
