Vijayawada: Students in Andhra Pradesh are migrating to Hyderabad for internships due to lack of opportunities in the State. Internship is intended to help students enhance their career prospects by gaining real time exposure. Today, almost all universities have made it mandatory for students to do internships halfway through their academic sessions.

An internship provides an opportunity for a student to work alongside regular staff at a workplace to gain some basic hands-on experience and educational and professional insight into a career path. But in Vijayawada, it is more like a course.

Students, speaking to the Hans India, shared their views. Bhargav, a student, said, "As part of our academic regulation, the students have to go through a minimum of three internships in all eight semesters to get more practical education to get hands-on experience.

We are not able to find a proper internship though we have online websites like internshala. We can have good internships in Hyderabad, Bangalore and other cities. It is difficult for us to go there and stay for an internship.

Even though the government is saying that it is going to make Amaravati as IT hub. The situation is not encouraging for students who want to do an internship in Vijayawada. I want to go to Hyderabad for three months for internship as the city is near and I do not encounter language problem there".

Sanjay, a BTech student felt, "Basically, the internship is a primary step to learn concepts, a method to execute ideas about the project, get the knowledge to excel in a professional career in the special field. I have been to internships in Vijayawada, but they are more like coaching classes. In the name of the internship, they are conducting classes and charging heavy fees. It's better to go out of the city for a proper internship to acquire certain skills."

Vinay, an MBA student pointed out that, "Internship is a part of the academics and a few colleges in the city have industrial connect to offer internship during the academics. The city started growing after the capital city was announced at Amaravati and it will take some time to shape into a big city after industries and IT-related establishments setting up their shops.

Presently we are opting nearby city Hyderabad for an internship as it is more developed". Kalyani, a parent, said "This process should change, and the government should provide better opportunities to the students. It's not a new State now, so the government has to be swift in taking decisions and they should contribute to student's growth."
