APCC flays Jagan for off-the-cuff remark

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday flayed Opposition leader and president of YSR Congress party YS Jaganmohan Reddy for his off-the-cuff remarks regarding the special category status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the media here at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, Congress spokesperson Dr Gangadhar said that Jaganmohan Reddy stated he would have gone to the judiciary if the SCS was mentioned in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

"It appears that Jaganmohan Reddy was not aware that the Union Cabinet takes the decision on special category status and sends it to the planning commission and it will be implemented with an executive order," he said adding that it would never mentioned in the enactment.

The erstwhile Congress Cabinet approved the category status to Andhra Pradesh and sent the same to the planning commission, he recalled. He said that Jaganmohan should have moved the judiciary over issues like Kadapa steel plant, Polavaram which were mentioned in the enactment. "It appears that Jagan was not interested in Kadapa steel plant," he added.

Referring to the rumour spread by the YCP leaders that publicity material remained in the Congress office, he said that the first tranche of the material was distributed to the candidates and the second tranche of the publicity material was about to be delivered after obtaining the permission from the Election Commission (EC).

The Congress voters returned to the Congress after AICC president Rahul Gandhi announced NYAY scheme and SCS to AP, he said adding that there would be no one left in YCP after the elections.

He criticised the BJP for attempting to destroy Andhra Pradesh.

"The internal survey conducted by the RSS made it clear that the NDA would get 181 seats plus or minus ten and the UPA would get 220 plus or minus in the general elections."It appears that both the BJP and its crony YCP are facing the fear of defeat and that is why they are resorting to mean politics, he said.
