APSRTC installs DEF refill units at bus depots
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) installed Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) machines at 19 RTC depots in the state to reduce the pollution levels. DEF, also known as AUS 32 and marketed as Ad Blue, is a liquid used to reduce the amount of air pollution created by a diesel engine. Specifically, DEF is an aqueous urea solution made with 32.5 percent urea and 67.5 percent deionised water. DEF is consumed in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) that lowers the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the diesel exhaust emissions from a diesel engine.
The APSRTC officials inaugurated the DEF refill plant at the diesel refill depot on Thursday. APSRTC is the first State transport undertaking customer in India for Tata Motors using this refilling model. A 2,000 litres of DEF has been set up with a metering unit and a pump on the occasion. When the fluid is nearing completion, order will be placed and the existing tanks will be filled by a refill vehicle. The DEF is mixed with the diesel as per the required ratio to check pollution levels emitted by the buses.
Executive Director G Koteswara Rao has explained the benefits of using DEF by APSRTC. He said the supplies will be made through Sahni Automotives Privtate Limited, distributors for Tata Motors Spare Parts for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. APSRTC Krishna district regional manager G Nagendra Prasad and other officials attended the event.
