APSRTC to begin its services from May 18 amid exemptions over lockdown

Andhra Pradesh: The RTC buses in Andhra Pradesh which are limited to the depot for the last two months amid country-wide lockdown imposed by the centre as part of coronavirus measures are all set to begin its operations soon. With the exemptions of the central and state governments, public transport authorities have decided to run buses. In this backdrop, RTC MD Madi Reddy Pratap has issued a circular to RMs in various parts of the state to get ready for buses by the 18th of this month. In the Anantapur region, RM Sumant alerted DM and others of various depots.

Officials have reportedly decided to run 635 buses in the region as a first step on the orders of RTC MD. Deputy CME Mohankumar and DMR at Anantapur depot on Tuesday have instructed the Garage staff on how to arrange seating arrangement in the super-luxury buses. This has resulted in special seating in the RTC buses for passengers to follow the physical distance. Officials are also taking steps to ensure that 50% occupancy in the busses. Tickets are also being booked online.

Meanwhile, the state has recorded 48 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday taking the tally to 2137 with 86 new discharged cases and two deaths. The overall death toll stands at 47, and the discharged cases stand at 1142.
