Arts courses lose sheen in BRAU
Srikakulam: Arts and humanities courses have lost sheen at BR Ambedkar University (BRAU), Etcherla in Srikakulam district. Previously it was a post-graduate (PG) centre affiliated to Andhra University (AU), Visakhapatnam.
In June 2008, it was upgraded as university with the blessings of the then chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. From 2008 to 2017, BRAU admissions conducted into different courses through AU Common Entrance Tests (CET). In 2018, BRAU started to conduct its own CET but students' turnout is less for arts and humanities courses.
This year BRAU conducted CET twice so far but in all arts courses' seats are yet to be filled. In Telugu 26 seats filled, in English 21 admissions completed, 13 seats filled in Economics, 25 admissions reported in rural development course, only nine seats filled in social work, 12 admissions reported so far in Master of Education, in library science course 13 seats filled and in journalism course also 11 seats filled.
BRAU located 12 km away from Srikakulam city and no coaching centres are available here to prepare for competitive examinations. Due to this, students are not interested join here in arts and humanities courses.
Another reason is lack of employment opportunities for arts and humanities courses. "We are going to conduct CET for third time on July 22 under the tag line 'for limited courses only' and admissions also will be conducted immediately" said BRAU Registrar Korupolu Raghubabu to The Hans India.
