Auto hits traffic SI, receives severe injuries

Nellore: A traffic sub-inspector received severe injuries when an auto driver hit him and escaped from the scene on Sunday night. According to police, K Krishnaiah, a traffic sub-inspector was on duty at KVR Petrol Bunk in the city and an auto driver was driving the vehicle in an inebriation condition.

Police officer tried to stop the vehicle showing stop signal, but the driver drove the vehicle overspeed hitting him. He received a fracture on leg and also an injury on forehead. He was immediately shifted to the nearby Bollineni Hospitals for treatment. Dargamitta Circle Inspector M Nageswaramma said that they had booked case on the incident and the accused is at large.

In another incident, a person died at Menakuru whom a speeding auto hit on Sunday night. Pallepati Ramanaiah,45, had completed his duty in Aravind Company located in Naidupet and was back to his village.

An auto from Venkatagiri hit him in which he died on the spot. Local people observed this and informed to the police. SI D Venkateswara Rao rushed to the spot and caught hold of the auto and shifted the dead body to the hospital for postmortem. They booked a case on the incident.
