Awareness meet on Usage of millets today

Vizianagaram: Jattu Trust founder and farmer motivator Dr D Pari Naidu said that millets are good for health and we should promote the production, cultivation and consumption of millets.

Speaking to media on Saturday, he said that Dr Khadervali, an agriculture scientist and nutritionist, is going to address the people and create awareness on usage of millets on Sunday at Gurajada District Library Auditorium. "Millets have high nutrition values than rice, wheat and easy for digestion as they have fiber too.

We should minimise the consumption of carbohydrates and increase taking millets like ragi, pearl millets, jowar, foxtail millets and others," he said and added Khadervali has been working on millets and found many ways to increase their nutritional values by cooking in different methods.

He will explain the people about the importance of usage of millets. Nowadays, the urban people were consuming more millets than rural people, he said and added it is a good sign for increasing the health standards of public.

Some stalls also would be opened to brief people about eatables to be prepared with millets, he said. Later, Parinaidu unveiled a poster regarding the programme. S Guruprasad also participated in the programme.
