Badvel: Rebel candidate to spoil chances of TDP

Kadapa: It seems that independent candidate may spoil the winning chances of TDP by splitting the votes in Badvel (SC) Assembly constituency of Kadapa district in the ensuing elections.

Though TDP is having strong cadre at ground level in the constituency, lack of proper leadership, coupled with failure of party high command in finalising the candidate led to such drawback.

It may be recalled that party high command in the last minute had finalised the candidature of Dr.Obulapuram Rajasekar a fresh and upcoming politician by ignoring the name of party senior leader Nagadasari Vijayajyothi from the aspirants. This had caused unrest in the party functionaries and also in her community and she contests in the election as an independent candidate despite several appeals from party local leaders against her decision.

It may be noted that ND Vijayajyothi, who was an employee of Andhra Pragati Grameena Bank (APGB)entered politics and had unsuccessfully contested on TDP ticket from Badvel constituency and lost the election with a margin of 9,500 votes in the hands of her political rival and YSRCP nominee Tiruveedhi Jayaramulu in 2014 elections.

However she played active role in the party, but was denied ticket in 2019 elections reportedly due to group politics.TDP won the seat three times - in 1994, 1999 and 2011 by elections and Congress won three times – in 1989, 2004 and 2009 and YSRCP won in 2014 elections.SC population is 72,000 and ST population is just 6,000.Share of voting percentage of YSRCP is 50.66 and TDP 44.18 and Congress 0.98.
