Beach tourism to get boost in Nellore

Nellore: To boost the tourism sector in the district, the administration is planning to develop road connectivity between the beaches in the coastal mandals. Initially, they are planning for connectivity between Mypadu and Kotha Koduru beaches with a four-lane-road for 10 km for the convenience of visitors.

There is more than 160 km of coastline in the entire district from Kavali to Tada mandals and the previous governments have planned to develop important beaches, temples, and other places in order to promote tourism. Eleven works have been proposed four years ago with Rs 60 crore under Swadesh Darshan Scheme and various beaches, Ubbalamadugu waterfalls, Nelapattu sanctuary, islands, tanks, and temples are among them.

Still, they are incomplete. Mypadu and Kothakoduru are also on the list of projects sanctioned earlier. Works at Mypadu beach were proposed with Rs 14.11 crore and with Rs 4.47 crore for Kotha Koduru beach. Officials of roads and buildings have proposed a 10-km-long road with around Rs 100 crore between the two important beaches close to Nellore city for its development and facility to the commuters.

Officials have proposed the acquisition of lands for more than 15 acres which requires around Rs 10-12 crore. The new road would give scope for easy transportation between the two beaches and the sightseers feel happy to visit both the places overcoming the traffic jams. Normally, these two beaches are busy on Saturdays and Sundays who reside in the resort enjoying nature.

"Enjoyable commute is always an important aspect for the development of tourism sector and the state government certainly encourages such facilities. We proposed the scheme and forwarded it to the government and expecting a positive reply," said an official from the tourism department.
