Bharath Bandh: TDP demands law on Minimum Support Price to the farmers produce
Former minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao demanded that the government provide support price for crops grown by farmers. Supporting farmers in Vijayawada as part of the Bharat Bandh, he said the central and state governments should legislate on the minimum support price. He recalled that the TDP had suggested amendments to the agricultural laws brought by the centre. He said the YSRCP government in the state was buying grain at a cheaper price. In addition, Devineni criticized the state government for weakening agricultural market yards.
He said that for the benefit of farmers, the central and state governments need to strengthen market yards and set up a price stabilization fund. Devineni Uma expressed concern that the new agricultural laws brought by the centre would benefit the corporates.
He alleged that middlemen had looted farmers for seven decades. He said the new agricultural laws would allow corporates to replace brokers. He criticised YSRCP government for being unfair to tenant farmers.
