BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao said in a statement on Monday night that lead metal was the main cause of mysterious illness in Eluru of West Godavari district. He said that Delhi AIIMS claims that patients blood samples were found to contain traces of lead and nickel. He said that the details of the tests were provided to the state government through Mangalagiri AIIMS.

In this backdrop, Delhi AIIMS experts have asked the state government to send samples of local drinking water and milk. Doctors believe that lead may cause neuro-toxic symptoms, and that the metal in the batteries may pass into patients' bodies through drinking water and milk.

According to AIIMS tests in Delhi, patients' blood samples contained a heavy metal called "lead" and a metal called nickel. Neuro-toxic symptoms appear to be due to lead, which is the substance found in batteries and is expected to pass through drinking water and milk to human beings.

The Public Health Department said that they need to know locally by what means they entered their bodies. AIIMS is the only company in Delhi to have advanced equipment to detect metals. State government officials should respond immediately.
