BJP policies landed India in crisis: CITU
Rajamahendravaram: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) national president Dr K Hemalatha said that a nationwide strike would be observed on January 8 against Central government's anti-workers and anti-farmer policies in the country.
She said the CITU was making all efforts to make the protest programme a grand success. Speaking to reporters at a resorts here on Tuesday, Hemalatha said the decision was taken at a meeting held in September this year.
The country is passing through financial crunch because of the policies being pursued by the Central government, she added. She said the Central government was privatising national properties such as railways, BSNL and so far 150 trains were privatised and soon the government would railway stations would also be given to private firms.
"So far, around 10 lakh employees lost their jobs in private sector and many more will lose jobs shortly," she said while adding that the BJP government had given subsidies to the tune of Rs 2.15 lakh crore to corporate sector in the guise of increasing purchasing capacity of the people in the country but the contrary to that, the purchasing power of the people had decreased.
CITU leaders A V Nageswara Rao, G Baby Rani, Purnachandra Rao, S S Murthi and others were present.
