Boats, nets washed away by heavy winds in Singarayakonda
Singarayakonda: Due to the severe and strong winds that swept the shore at Pakala village near Singarayakonda on the early hours of Thursday, several boats and nets were washed away into the sea, resulting in about Rs 50 lakh material loss to the fishermen.
The fishermen identified that the gusty wind surrounded the Pallepalem, Chellammapalem, Pothayyagaripalem and surrounding villages in the early morning with heavy speeds. The wind uprooted the anchored boats and the fishing nets stored in the boats and huts on the shore also into the sea.
The locals found that a boat in Pallepalem, three boats in Chellammapalem, one more boat in Pothayyagaripalem were swept into the sea while few other boats were severely damaged as the wind threw them at a distance.
They announced that the fishing nets were also torn and damaged while most of them were swept away into the sea. They calculated that more than Rs 50 lakh worth property was damaged due to the winds and were requesting the government to provide relief to them.
Kondapi YSRCP in-charge, Dr Madasi Venkaiah visited Pakala and nearby fishermen villages in the afternoon on Thursday and inspected the damage caused by the gusty winds. He said that he would recommend the government to provide damage relief to the fishermen soon so that they could continue to go fishing on the sea for livelihood.
