Bombay Jayashri presented Mangalampalli Memorial Award

Ministers Avanthi Srinivas, Vellampalli Srinivas and others presenting Mangalampalli Bala Muralikrishna Memorial National Award to veteran musician Bombay Jayashri in Vijayawada on Saturday

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Creative and Culture Commission organised a programme in memory of musical maestro Mangalampalli Bala Muralikrishna on Saturday evening at Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kala Kshetram. Veteran musician Bombay Jayashri was presented the Mangalampalli Bala Muralikrishna Memorial National Award recently announced by the Andhra Pradesh Government on this occasion.

Multi-talented Jayashri was born in Kolkata and had her initial training in Carnatic music from her parents and later advanced training from Lalgudi Jayaraman and TR Balamani. GN Dondapani Iyer is her Veena Guru. Jayashri trained Hindustani Classical Music from Mahavir Jaipurwale and Ajay Pohonkar. She travelled extensively in and out of country and gave a number of performances.

LV Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh said that Mangalampalli was a great musician and multi-talented person. Avanthi Srinivas, Minister for Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh presided over the meeting and said that the government is keen in promoting culture.

Ministers Perni Nani, Kodali Nani, Vellampalli Srinivas, MLA Malladi Vishnuvardhan, MLC Ramasurya Rao and Abhiram, son of Balamurali and District Collector Md Imtiaz, Principal Secretary Praveen Kumar, Commissioner Pradyumna Venkatesh and other officials were present in the felicitation of Jayashri.

She was presented Rs 10 lakh award amount with shawl and memento. The music concert of Jayashri was enjoyed by the music lovers with her fine and melodious voice and she rendered the keerthanas like "Raghunayaka neepadayuga..", in Hamsadwani ragam, "Akhilandeswari" in Aarabhi ragam.

This concert was instrumentally supported by Charumati Raghuraman on violin, YV Ramanamurthy on mridangam and BS Purushottam on kanjeera. Earlier, Kaja Venkata Subrahmanyam and the disciples of Padmasri Hemanth were showcased the dance items based on Balamurali's compositions.
