Breastfeeding essential for baby: Vijayakumari

Eluru: Breastfeeding is essential for every newborn and there is no substitute for mother's milk, said Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project director Vijayakumari.

Participating in breastfeeding week celebrations here on Saturday, she said that feeding the baby within half-an-hour of baby's birth is key to baby's health. Mother's milk has every essential ingredient necessary for the good health of the baby.

CD PO Tulasi said that said that the thought of being slim as part of modernity at the cost of denying baby of breastfeeding is a bad idea. Breastfeeding should be encouraged for health growth of baby, she clarified.

Stating that August first week is being celebrated as breastfeeding week, Tulasi called upon Anganwadi teachers and supervisors to campaign vigorously on the need for breastfeeding. Supervisor Mariyamma, Anganwadi teachers Madhavi, Sakuntala, Vijayalakshmi and others were present.
