Burglary in Canara Bank: Attender held

Kakinada: The East Godavari district police cracked the Canara Bank, Kothapeta branch, burglary case and arrested one Bandaru Thulasi Suresh at Kothapeta on Saturday.

The police also recovered a cash of 7.9 lakh, gold ornaments, motorcycle worth Rs `45,000 and smartphone worth Rs 24,900. The total value of the booty is estimated to be Rs 16,19,390.

The police got a break in the case with the help of fingerprints collected from the scene of the offence. Giving out details of the case and progress of the investigation at a press conference, district SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi said that the accused Thulasi Suresh, a resident of Sri Krishna Devaraya Street, Nallamilli of Janipalli village of Amalapuram mandal of East Godavari district, has passed Intermediate. Though he attended classes for the undergraduate course B.Com, he did not pass the exams.

He has been working as office attender in Canara Bank, Kothapeta branch since June 2018 . However, he was addicted to liquor and other vices. In a bid to earn easy money, he planned to commit theft in the bank in the afternoon on December 7.

SP Asmi said that when the staff proceeded to have their lunch, the accused Suresh switched off the UPS to ensure that the CC cameras do not function and took away a cash of Rs 9,23,000 and 322 grams gold.

With the stolen amount, Suresh purchased a smart phone, gold ring and second hand motorcycle. After committing the theft he visited many places in East and West Godavari districts, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram districts and he finally he came to Amalapuram and stayed at a lodge.

Based on credible information, the police arrested Suresh at the lodge at Amalapuram on Saturday. He told the police that to hide his identity he tonsured his head.
