Ongole: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Excise K Narayana Swamy has said that the State government would ban liquor sale in the state in a phased manner. He participated as the chief guest at an awareness programme organised by the Excise Department here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM said that people's representatives should cooperate on banning the sale of liquor in the state in a phased manner. He told the Excise department officials to check and control preparation of arrack by the Tribal in their Tandas.

He told the officials that all the welfare schemes introduced by the government should reach the tribal areas and should create awareness among the tribal community about the ill-effects of consuming liquor. Jagruthi programme should be taken up effectively, said the Deputy CM.

He said that with the support of women in the villages and tandas awareness should be created among them on the ill-effects of consuming alcohol. The officials should visit villages and educate the people to encourage them stop consuming alcohol.

He further said that liquor shops should be away from schools, colleges, places of worship and hospitals. He said that officials should have strict vigil on belt shops.
