Candidates for Nellore Rural keep politics boiling
Nellore: The ruling party’s decision to induct Nellore MP Adala Prabhakara Reddy as MLA candidate against the YSRCP suspended Nellore rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy in the fray in 2024 general elections, made the politics boiling in Nellore rural constituency.
As part of damage control measures after Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy quit the party, Adala Prabhakara Reddy was announced as the party nominee by appointing him as the in-charge for Nellore rural constituency.
About 70-year-old contractor-cum-politician Adala Prabhakara Reddy, who is popularly known to the public as APR, is highly fortunate as he never got defeated in the elections since he entered into politics in 1999.
A Prabhakara Reddy made his debut in politics by winning election from Alluru constituency on TDP ticket against Congress nominee Katamreddy Vishnu Vardhan Reddy with 5,983 votes majority votes in 1999 general elections and occupied ministerial berth as Housing Minister in Nara Chandrababu Naidu cabinet.
Later, he joined the Congress by quitting TDP and contested from Sarvepalli constituency and won against TDP candidate Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy twice in 2004 and 2009 with a majority of 7,625 (2004) and 10,284 (2009) votes respectively. He contested for Nellore MP on YSRCP ticket in 2019 elections and won against TDP nominee Beeda Masthan Rao with 1,48,571 votes. Now he is contesting from Nellore rural against TDP nominee Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, who won election on YSRCP ticket twice from Nellore rural constituency with 25,653 votes against BJP nominee in 2014 and 20,776 votes against TDP nominee Shaik Abdul Aziz in 2019 huge majority in both elections. Adala Prabhakara Reddy testing his fortune for fifth time, while Kotamreddy Sridhar trying to secure hattrick victory in 2024 elections. Interestingly, the duo together helped for their victory under YSRCP banner while this time they are political rivals from different parties.
