Chandrababu Naidu objects to 100 ft YSR statue at Polavaram
Mangalagiri: Former Chief Minister and Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday asked how the YSRCP Government could install a 100-ft statue of YS Rajasekhar Reddy at the Polavaram lifeline project when it was being constructed with 100 per cent funds provided by the Central Government.
Naidu said that Polavaram was a national project and the ruling YSRCP had no moral right to do whatever it wanted as the State Government was not spending a single rupee on the project. Has the Andhra Pradesh government convinced the Centre on the statue before planning for this, he questioned.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, the TDP chief strongly objected to the "reckless manner" in which the Jagan regime had proposed to spend over Rs 200 crore on the 100-ft statue of YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Apparently, the Chief Minister was only interested in the statue but not the actual project that had the potential to serve the long-term interests of the entire State.
He advised the YSRCP government not to take easy on Polavaram as it was the only one out of the 17 national projects in the country to complete 70 per cent works. All other 16 national projects could complete just 10 to 30 per cent works only.
