Chittoor and Nellore to receive heavy rains for two days amid low pressure in Bay of Bengal

The extremely low pressure in the southeastern Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas has been strengthening. During the past 3 hours it traveled west-northwest and centred about 710 km east-southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and about 1,120 km southeast of Kanyakumari (India). It is likely to be intensified into a deep depression within 12 hours of arrival.

The Meteorological officials said it will turn into a cyclone in the next 24 hours, which was named 'Burevi'. It is likely to cross the central coast of Sri Lanka on the evening of the December 2, heading west-northwest. It travels almost westward and then enters the Komarin region in the morning on December 3.

Due to this effect, light to moderate rains are likely in one or two places in the southern coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 36 hours, while scattered showers are likely in Nellore and Prakasam districts. The Meteriological office said that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain along with thunder and lightning in Rayalaseema region and scattered showers in Chittoor district.
