Chittoor: Deputy CM K Narayana Swamy seeks measures to irrigate 10 L acres

Chittoor: Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy said that effective measures should be initiated for bringing the Telugu Ganga water from Handri-Neeva, Galeru Nagari and Telugu Ganga Irrigation Projects in view of the prevailing drought conditions in the district.

Reviewing the developmental activities pertaining to the district particularly his native Gangadhara Nellore Assembly Constituency, he said out of 16 lakh available cultivable land in the district, only 6 lakh of land was covered under minor and medium irrigation projects in the district.

He instructed the engineers of Irrigation Department to prepare an action plan for creating an ayacut to a tune of 10 lakh acres.

"Above 100 TMC ft water from HNSS, GNSS, and TG projects would be diverted to meet water requirements of 10 lakhs acres. At least 5 TMC water should be ensured to each assembly constituency in the district," he felt.

He directed the concerned authorities of irrigation department to construct the reservoirs and water storage tanks for the water requirements. He also stressed on need to conduct village-wise land records survey through revenue officers to ascertain the availability of excess land.

He stated Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has firmly decided to issue house sites for all the eligible poor as a gift to next Ugadi festival. The official machinery of revenue department should take effective measures for identifying the eligible beneficiaries for issuing house sites.

He said instructions were given to create a burial ground in each village in the district and lay CC roads to all villages at the earliest. District Collector N B Gupta, Joint Collector K Markendeyulu, Joint Collector 2 V R Chandra Mouli, DRO Vijayachander and Chittoor RDO Renuka were present.
