Civic chief K Sakunthala motivates taxpayers in Ongole
Ongole: In order to encourage people to pay the taxes in time and get better services from the civic body, the Ongole Municipal Corporation commissioner K Sakunthala started to meet people from whom the large amounts of tax are pending.
The Ongole municipal corporation should get Rs 36 crore as revenue from the property taxes for the closing financial year, but got only 49 per cent of the amount from the assessments.
To encourage the public and people with large pending dues to pay the taxes, the commissioner said that they are waiving interest on the arrears for payments by the end of economic year.
Sakunthala met few of those assess with arrears like management of Oxford school, Sarovar hotel etc in the special drive and advised them to pay the taxes in time.
She and the assistant commissioner T Brahmaiah and the revenue inspectors explained to the people that the corporation could provide better services only when the people pay taxes in time.
