Compulsory helmet rule from tomorrow: DTC
Guntur: Transport department strictly enforce the compulsory helmet from Tuesday in the district. Deputy Transport Commissioner E Meera Prasad has already taken all the steps to enforce the helmet rule and he already discussed the matter with the Guntur urban SP PHD Rama Krishna and taking his cooperation for enforcing compulsory helmet rule because new Motor Vehicles Act came into force from Sunday.
Initially, the compulsory helmet rule will be enforced in Guntur urban and later, it will be extended to Guntur rural police district limits. According to new Motor Vehicles Act, penalty will be imposed from Rs1000 to Rs10,000 depending upon the nature of violation. In order to implement the new penalty, the State government has to issue a GO.
Speaking to 'The Hans India'here on Saturday, DTC Meera Prasad said, "We are waiting for the GO to implement the penalty mentioned in the new MV Act." He urged the two-wheeler riders to wear helmet and follow traffic rules to avoid penalty and prevent accidents.
