Mangalagiri: Expressing serious concern over hundreds of people in Eluru getting admitted to hospitals with symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea, fatigue, fainting, epilepsy and other ailments since Saturday, Jana Sena supremo Pawan Kalyan said here on Sunday that immediate medical assistance must be given on war-footing to the people.

According to official figures, about 227 people were admitted to the government hospital alone, but many more victims are being given treatment in private hospitals with the same symptoms causing more concern.

Pawan said that it is shocking that the doctors attending on the patients are unable to arrive at a conclusion about the disease even after the primary assessment.

He recalled that many surveys conducted earlier revealed that air and water pollution levels in Eluru are beyond permissible limits. It was also noticed that drinking water pipes are mixed with drainage pipes at some points. "It is the responsibility of the people's representatives and the district administration to ensure that people won't get scared under the present critical conditions. It is need of the hour to summon health experts on war-footing to Eluru and bring the situation under control," he said.

He urged the government to take necessary health measures in this direction. Door-to-door health check-ups should be conducted, he said.
