Congress party observes Potti Sriramulu death anniversary in Kadapa
The death anniversary of Sri Potti Sriramulu observes at the Kadapa District Congress Party Office under the leadership of City Congress President Vishnu Pritam Reddy. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Potti Sriramulu played a crucial role in the struggle for the reorganization of linguistic states in India. "Born on March 23, 1901, he dedicated his life to the cause of a separate Telugu-speaking state. His relentless efforts and hunger strikes were instrumental in the formation of Andhra Pradesh," Reddy said.
On December 15, 1952, after 58 days of fasting, Potti Sriramulu tragically lost his life. Frustrated with the delay in the formation of Andhra Pradesh, he decided to sacrifice himself to draw attention to the demand for a Telugu-speaking state. His sacrifice symbolized the ongoing struggle for linguistic and regional identity in India. His legacy extends beyond the formation of Andhra Pradesh and encompasses the broader context of linguistic restructuring that shaped modern India.
Additionally, December 15 marks the 73rd death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. Known as the "Iron Man of India," Sardar Patel played a pivotal role in integrating over 500 princely states into the Indian Union, ensuring a united and unified nation. His death on December 15, 1950, marked the end of an era for India and his contributions to national unity continue to be celebrated.
Several political figures and representatives, including PCC State Secretary Gadham Charles, Youth Congress leaders, and Human Rights District Presidents, participated in the funeral and paid their respects to Potti Sriramulu.
