Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) charged the Narendra Modi government at the Centre with destroying the principles of Mahatma Gandhi by spreading hatred and intolerance in the country.

Addressing the media at Andhra Ratna Bhavan here on Monday along with APCC vice-presidents M J Ratna Kumar, Sunkara Padmasri, PCC general secretary Naraharasetti Narasimha Rao and City Congress president Gurunadham, AICC secretary Dr Sake Sailajanath said that the Congress party has been organising week-long celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birthday throughout the country.

Sailajanath deplored that in the name of Gandhi, the Modi government has been systematically destroying the basic principles of truth, non-violence, peace, simplicity among others.

"In spite of the claims of RSS chief Mohan Bhagavat that the RSS is in no way connected with the BJP, the RSS is the arm of the BJP," he asserted. He flayed the machinations of the BJP to glorify Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Gandhiji. He condemned the stony silence of Narendra Modi when he was praised as the father of the nation by US President Donald Trump.

"As part of the programme, the APCC will take out a Pada Yatra from Andhra Ratna Bhavan and pay tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Kaleswara Rao Market in the city," he said. He said the YSRCP government did not undertake not a single programme that is useful to people after assuming power four months back.
