Congress urges Centre to allocate funds for ongoing projects
Ongole: Prakasam District Congress Committee president Eda Sudhakar Reddy announced that the AICC secretary and in-charge for the Ongole parliament constituency Dr Sirivella Prasad has met Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal and requested for funds allotment and announcement of new routes in the district.
He said that Prasad explained the importance of already announced railway lines between Cumbum and Proddatur, Cumbum and Ongole, Nadikudi and Srikalahasti. He said that the 142-kilometre line between Cumbum and Proddatur is proposed in 2013-14, but even the initial survey is also not complete.
The 115-kilometre line between Cumbum and Ongole links the Visakhapatnam and Chennai line to western Prakasam district, he explained. He said that the first phase of the 309-kilometre line between Nadikudi and Srikalahasti was started in 2016, but not complete even after three years.
He said that the line is a crucial link between Guntur-Amaravati-Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam-Howrah on one side, Secunderabad-Mumbai on another side along with the Tirupati-Chittoor-Bangalore route on the third side with the hinterlands of western parts of Prakasam district.
He explained to the minister that these three routes serve 40 lakh people from the four districts and boosts economic growth through the industrial corridor and NIMZ and requested sanction of enough funds for them.
