Construction workers stage dharna in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The construction workers and the leaders of CITU demanded that the government withdraw the new sand policy and provide work to the construction labour. They demanded that the welfare board extend financial help of Rs 10,000 to each construction worker.
They also insisted on opening of 76 sand reaches in the district and increase the number of stock yards. In this regard they staged a dharna here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, CITU district general secretary NCH Srinivas said that 2.6 lakh construction workers were earning their livelihood in nearly 26 construction activities.
With the new sand policy and shortage of sand, there are no works pushing them to misery. He said that the new sand policy and sand supply through online sand app was not functioning properly and the government should focus on it.
CITU leader M Mahesh said in Ibrahimpatnam, Kondapalli and nearby places there are about 2500 construction workers and they should be provided work immediately. CITY leaders A Nageswara Rao, N Prasad, A Ramesh, P Srinivas Rao, B Srinivas, B Krishna and others were present.
