Contingent workers observe relay fast in Kakinada
Kakinada: The school contingent workers observed relay fast in front of the Collectorate here on Thursday, demanding release of arrears of the past three years.
Leading the agitation, the CITU district president, M Veeralakshmi said that the contingent workers were not being paid their wages for past three years.
When they asked their arrears, the government stopped the work. She said that due to lack of sanitation in the schools, the worst sanitation conditions were prevailing in the schools and its surroundings posing health hazard to students and teachers. The students and teachers were facing lot of hardships, she added.
She also said that some of the schools are engaging students on sanitation work and it is also a crime. The agitation would continue until the government releases the arrears to the contingent workers.
The union district president, Y Siromani, the union members K Kumari, T Vijaya, A Bapanamma, M Lakshmi, M Ratna, T Durga, R Parvathi, B Aruna, K Posamma, M Mangamma, V Subba Lakshmi and others participated in rely fast.
