Cops seize 50 lakh bank cash in Kakinada

Kakinada: The Rajamahendravaram urban police on Wednesday seized Rs 50 lakh cash when being transported from Rajamahendravaram Andhra Bank cash chest to Siringindalapadu branch of the bank in Rampachodavaram mandal in East Godavari agency.

According to Andhra Bank Sirigindalapadu branch manager A Siva Prasad, they took the cash from cash chest of the bank in Rajamahendravaram to their destination Sirigidalapadu with all relative documents.

En route, their vehicle was stopped by police at Korukonda in Rajamahendravaram urban police, said to be on election duty. They took the cash in to their possession despite showing the details and the purpose.

But the cash was not released, the bank manager said. "We represented the issue to Rajamahendravaram urban SP Dr Shimushi Bajpayee, ITDA project officer Nishant Kumar, East Godavari police, District Collector Kartikeya Mishra. But the cash has not been released till Thursday evening.

Because of this problem, the cash transactions have come to a standstill on Wednesday and Thursday at Sirigindalapadu bank branch, Siva Prasad said the media on Thursday.

The bank manager was here in Kakinada to meet district officials seeking release of bank cash.

When contacted, East Godavari lead bank district manager BV Subrahmanyam confirmed the seizure of bank cash and said that they are making efforts to get the release of cash on Thursday evening.
