Corona case in Nellore Interim report says positive, but to be confirmed by Pune NIV

Nellore: The suspected case of coronavirus in Nellore city is reported as 'interim positive' which is yet to be confirmed finally by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. Officials have been alerted after the interim positive report. Teams at the GGH were also alerted to take additional care in handling the patient in case the NIV declares it as positive.

The suspect cases are gradually increasing in the district with the people who visited other nations. A city-based student who returned freshly from Italy after completing studies has been shifted to the isolation ward in the Government General Hospital here on Monday night after home-based isolation for three days. In fact, earlier, the student was tested negative at the Chennai airport.

The student who returned from Italy has been normal for the last three days as the officials quarantined at home. But he developed a dry cough which made the officials keep on toes. He has been shifted to the isolation ward in the Government General Hospital. District Medical and Health Officer Dr. G Rajya Lakshmi said on Tuesday that they had collected swabs and sent them to the SVIMS, Tirupati, which is Nodal Centre, for investigations.

There have been around 19 suspected cases reported since February 1 whom the officials quarantined at home for home-based observation and four people have been recently freed finding no suspicious symptoms. Still, 15 persons are under observation.

Recently, the SVIMS started conducting coronavirus tests for the suspected cases across the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh as it had received 200 test kits from the Pune-based National Institute of Virology on Friday evening.
