Coronavirus: District Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara dispels fears on chicken, fish at Ongole

Ongole: District Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara advised the people not to believe in rumours on the spread of Coronavirus.

Speaking to media here on Friday, Bhaskara said that the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) will be spread only by means of touching the infected person or objects or surfaces he touched or infected by the patient, but not due to eating chicken, eggs or fish.

The District Collector said that the World Health Organisation has made several types of research in the meantime and announced that it didn't find any supportive claims in them. He said that the Union government also announced that the Coronavirus will not spread through the chicken and fish and advised the public to shun apprehensions and enjoy the meat as they did earlier.

The Joint Director of the Fisheries Department, A Chandrasekhara Reddy also said in a note that the COVID-19 would not spread through fish, prawns and other fish products as the disease spreads through the infected patient only. He said that the Departments of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Fisheries also announced that the contamination of COVID-19 through chicken and fish products is not possible and there was no need to panic.
